Elements of a Great Home Cinema Theater Media Room

Your home is complete. Everything is furnished and painted and all of the rooms have been designated and assigned. How happy are you to discover that you really do have an extra space. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a spare bedroom, a den, the garage or the basement – you have an extra space and you know just what you want to do with it. It’s going to be the home cinema theater media room that you always wanted. Being a reasonable person, you understand that you can’t get every single thing that you ever wanted for it. Not right away. But just in case you get the chance to upgrade and add to it, you want to make sure that your home cinema theater media room is designed just right.

The Rear Entrance

What’s a home cinema theater media room without a rear entrance? You want everyone to see the room from its best angle the minute they enter. You want them to be able to see the big screen, the theater chairs, the fine décor, and the fabulous electronics all at once. That means a rear entrance. You know where the door is so you know where the screen will be.

Now make sure that the acoustics are good. If it’s a basement, you might want to cover the cement floor. If it’s part of the living area of the home, a double layer of drywall is not out of the question.  A good home cinema theater media room is not housed in a square room. That’s bad acoustically. If your space is square, build a wall inward at least half a foot. You can always use the space to house the electronics or make a media library.

The worst place to put your seating is in the very spots where most people put their seating. In a home cinema theater media room, the sound is poorest at the back of the room and in the exact center. Make a scale drawing of your space and divide it into three parts front to back and again side to side. The best seating is right where the lines intersect. Use that measurement for the speaker placement as well. They should go at the sides of the room at one of the thirds. Plan around that for the best home cinema theater media room.
